A Work in Progress - Oil painting on canvas - 24" x 36"
This painting began by covering the canvas with a thick layer of titanium white oil paint.  The idea was to create a dynamic painting surface on which to bring the energy of the brush-stroke to life as the image began to develop, white on white.  As the image began to take shape, I went into it with a hint of cerulean blue to give it enough definition that I could begin to build up the color and dimension.  Inspired by the sunflower, I would like to take this whimsical expression into the world of the aquatic, where it could also be a sea anenome swaying in the current.

Present phase of development

Next phase:  Color-enriched using  computer imaging.

For the next phase of the painting I am going to try the darker shade of cerulean blue for the background because it enhances the visual impact by making the red stand out and vibrate.  It adds some dimension as well.  Using the computer to work out the color, I incorporated more yellow into the image and experimented with the deep red accent at the center of the floral image to see what kind of effect or visual impact it would create.  When I go back over the painting again with the blue, yellow and red, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Sunflower Oil Paintings on Canvas

I recently started working on a new series of oil paintings as my artistic contribution to the fundraising activities for this year's Winner's Walk of Hope at Malden Park on Sunday, September 12, 2010.

This is the first painting in the series, not yet completed, but very close. This painting is working as a vibrant backdrop for the sunflower necklaces (it fits perfectly into my sunflower display), as well as something which we could sell raffle tickets for, or maybe hold a silent auction for, on behalf of Bev's Crushing Crew.

Still a few more hours of painting to go on this one!

I am forwarding this email incase you can join us for the Ovarian Cancer Walkathon on September 12th. You will receive a T-Shirt with our Team name on it, "Bev's Crushing Crew".

We are trying our best this year to have as many walkers out as possible, to support Bev, Marty and their kids. If you can join and aren't able to be there for the walk, someone will bring you your T-Shirt.  It was an amazing day last year.  We hope you can join and also save the $25 dollar registration fee if you join from now until May 15th.

Thanks to all of you,

Chris and Denise

Sunflower Necklaces

In September, 2009 I began creating sunflower necklaces as an artistic way of contributing to the meaning and beauty of the Annual Windsor Winner's Walk of Hope.

They were so well received by the people at Windsor's Walk in Malden Park that I began production in my small upstairs art room to make them available for the 2010 Walk.

To date, I have finished 51 necklaces, sold 19 and raised $62 for ovarian cancer research.

The pictures you see here show a sample necklace. They illustrate the work in progress as displayed on my gray marble production slab as well as the finished jewelry product which is displayed against the Winner's Walk of Hope yellow T-shirt fabric, complete with adjustable leather cord.

I am in the process of organizing a photo gallery for this website which will showcase the growing collection.  The creative process I use to make this line so special allows for customized variations in colour and effect.
